The most common form of breast cancer is ductal carcinoma beginning in the cells of the ducts. Breast cancer can also develop in cells of the lobules or other tissue in the breast. Invasive breast cancer starts in either the duct or lobules and spreads into surrounding tissue. Some signs include change in appearance as well as in feeling. A possible sign would be if a lump is found on the breast or if the breast becomes swollen.
There is one most common way to treat breast cancer which is chemotherapy, however there is a new alternative called laser ablation. A study by the name of Novilase Breast Therapy uses this method. The method involves placing small probes in the center of the cancer, the heat from the laser is supposed to destroy the tumors. Dr. Barbara Schwartzberg hopes that this method will replace lumpectomy. Lumpectomy is a method in which part of the tumor and breast tissue is removed. Only part of the breast is removed in order to not leave the breast misshapen. Clearly, this new method however is showing significant results. According to an article Laser: A Breast Cancer Treatment Alternative? “the researchers found that 91 percent of the patients had complete destruction of the cancer when the laser procedure was performed according to technical guidelines. Overall, there was an 84 percent complete tumor destruction rate with the laser treatment, the study found.” Could laser ablation get rid of lumpectomy?
